Primary sludge and excess sludge from wastewater treatment plant contain high content of organics. Sludge digestion is stabilization process of these sludge and the organics in the sludge is transformed to methane by anaerobic digestion process or minerallized to water and carbon dioxide by aerobic digestion process. Digestion process requires long SRT because particle organisms is hard to solubilize. Ultrasonic power is helpful to solubilize the particulate and the solubilized form of COD is easily used to microorganisms. Ultrasonication combined with aerobic digestion experiment was carried out in this study. Ultrasonication is effect to solubilize of particulate solids. But the aerobic digestion efficiency was not significantly increased by the ultrasonic pretreatment because the increased SCOD was reused to synthesize aerobic microorganisms. Direct periodic ultrasonication on the aerobic digestion process shows relatively higher digestion rate rather than ultrasonication pretreatment. Phosphorus was leached by the solibilization of particulates and the leaching rate was proportional to SCOD increase rate.
