Abstract
In this study, mediated effect of internalized shame in relation to childhood trauma and social anxiety disorder of college students have been tested.
The subjects of this study were 420 students who take cultural subjects in C,D,S university in Gwang-Ju. To measure social anxiety disorder of college students scale of social interaction anxiety and social phobia that were adapted by Kim Hyang-Suk (2000) have been used. A researcher have selected the field of public trauma from a scale of traumas which was discovered by Van Der Kolk (1996), adapted by Ko Na-Rae (2008) to measure childhood trauma. Scale of internalized shame which was discovered by Cook (2001), adapted by Lee In-Suk and Choi Hae-Lim (2005) have been used to measure internalized shame. Collected research materials have analyzed by using SPSS 18.0 and AMOS 18.0. To analyze characteristic of childhood trauma t investigation and one way analysis of variance have been conducted. Pearson’s product-moment correlation analysis was conducted in order to examine the relationship between childhood trauma, internalized shame and social anxiety disorder, also the study was analyzed by using structural equating model in order to examine the mediated effects.
The result of this study can be summarized as follows.
Firstly, as a result of examining characteristics of childhood trauma on the subjects in the present study they have experienced multiple traumas rather than a single trauma and the more multiple traumas they have, the more average of internalized shame and social anxiety disorder are attentively high.
Secondly, childhood trauma, internalized shame and social anxiety disorder respectively have showed a positive relationship.
Lastly, there have been mediated effects indicated attentively after examining the mediated effects of internalized shame in relation to childhood trauma and social anxiety disorder of college students. The absolute suitability index of measurement model somewhat lacked parsimonious but the relative suitability index was satisfactory. As a result of comparisons of suitability of structural model using competition model, suitability of partial mediated model have attentively showed mediated effects and also assumed more parsimonious than absolute mediated model. Based on the result, the resemblance between childhood trauma and partial mediated model of internalized shame caused by social anxiety disorder is verified.
Thus, the study is significant in the sense that it has indicated the importance of treating internalized shame to consult the college students who have childhood trauma.
