This study was performed to identify the experience of verbal abuse during the recent a month and to find the relationship between verbal abuse and mental health in some operating nurse.
The study subjects were 176 operating nurse in some general hospitals and the data were collected using by self-administered questionnaire from October 17 to October 31, 2011. The questionnaire composed of general characteristics, the experience of verbal abuse, verbal abuse scale, self-esteem, job stress and Korean General Health Questionnaire-20. The used analysis methods were t-test, ANOVA Pearson's correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis.
As a result of this study, The percentage of experience of verbal abuse in the study subjects were 65.3%. In talk down situation, the verbal abuse factors of nurses and doctors were measured highly. In simple analysis, the experience of verbal abuse and scores of verbal abuse scale(nurses domain, doctors domain) were significantly associated with scores of mental health.
In multiple regression analysis the experience of verbal abuse(Model 1, b=2.664) and scores of nurses domain in verbal abuse scale(Model 2, b=0.398) were statistically significant related with mental health.
In conclusion, the verbal abuse of operating nurses influenced mental health. Therefore, it is required to maintain and promote mental health of operating nurses by developing the various prevention program for preventing verbal abuse.
