Purpose : The purpose of this study was to investigate the predicting factors of depression in pregnant women in a city. Method: The subjects were 149 pregnant women who were using G and M woman hospital in a city. Data were collected by structured questionnaires from January 10th to May 20th 2011, and analyzed with the descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's Correlation Coefficients, and Stepwise Multiple Regression using SPSS/Win 17.0 program. Result: Mean of age was 31 years, and mean score of depression was 7.2. Prevalence rate of depression in pregnant women was 28.9%. The depression in pregnant women showed a negative correlation with the self-esteem(r=-.47, p<.001) and family support(r=-.38, p<.001), but a positive correlation with the stress(r=.419, p<.001). In addition, variables that predicted depression in pregnant women were general health condition, stress, self-esteem, communication with husband, and planned pregnancy (39.0%). Conclusion: Based on findings from this study, it should be considered screening of depression in pregnant women. Also, it should be applied program to prevent risk group of depression in pregnant women depending on psychosocial factors.
