This study, by finding out a correlation between elderly people's participation in a popular song program and their satisfaction with life and how much influence it has, aims to provide them with better ways to spend leisure time and improve their satisfaction with life, eventually to find desirable solutions to today's elderly people problems.
For this study, a survey was conducted with a total of 200 elderly people over 65 years old: 110 elderly ones in Y-gun, Jeollanam-do, and 90 in K-gun, Jeollabuk-do. Among the answered survey questionnaires, 169 questionnaires excluding 31 unclearly answered questionnaires due to their old age were analyzed,
For the analysis of the data, depending on the purpose, frequency analysis, ANOVA, and t-test analysis were used. Based on the study methods and analysis results, the findings of this study are as follows.
While categorizing satisfaction with life by physical, emotional, intellectual, and social satisfaction as in the study models, the study found the followings.
First, in regard to the influence of elderly people's general characteristics on their satisfaction with life, age, existence of a spouse, housing type, living standards commonly showed a significant difference in comparison with all the models. However, living expenses and present problems showed a significant difference only in emotional satisfaction; a monthly allowance and health conditions only in physical satisfaction; living standards, and educational level only in intellectual satisfaction; and housing type only in social satisfaction.
Second, as for the influence of participation degree in a popular song program on satisfaction with life, it showed significant differences in intellectual, and social satisfaction, depending on the frequency of participation, and the time-length of participation. The time-length of participation showed a significant difference in emotional satisfaction. The site of participation commonly showed a significant difference in comparison with all the models, but the time-length of participation showed no significant difference. The frequency of participation in a popular song program that showed the highest satisfaction was once per week, and the time-length with the highest satisfaction was less than one hour. The site of participation with the highest satisfaction was found to be a welfare center.
Third, as a result of analyzing the correlation between participation in a popular song program and satisfaction with life, it was found that the participation in a popular song program has positive effects on physical, emotional, and intellectual satisfaction with life.
