A study on Sonata for flute and piano by Francis Poulenc

Francis Poulenc was a neoclassical composer. He had a influence on French music in early 20th century. Some of young french composers organized 'Les six'. They centered about 'Eric Satie' represented neoclassicism and Francis Poulenc was belong to them. This study examined the 'Sonata for Flute and Piano' by Francis Poulenc. This sonata consists of three movements. First movement is in three parts. It was based on classical sonata and meter changes frequently. Second movement has lyric melody line. Third movement has lots of chromatic scale and dynamic rhythm and also consists of three part as sonata. Francis Poulenc uses unique rhythm, syncopation, ostinato, and irregular accent. So, his music is a representative one which is well mixed with classical style and modern style. In conclusion, his musical tendency established a neoclassicism style in France.
