- Abstract
- The purpose of this study was to fine a method for improving children's behavior during dental treatment in relation to dentists' attire. For this study, 650 children visiting a dental clinic were asked to participate in a survey on the attire of the dentists. The results of the survey were as follows;
1. The survey found that gowns were preferred to ordinary clothes for male dentists.
2. The survey also found that gowns were preferred to ordinary clothes for female dentists.
3. 67.7 to 87.6 % preferred male dentist's wearing gown when 59.2 to 75.9%. preferred female dentist wearing gown. I don't really understand the point of this sentence.
4. For male dentists, a long white gown was the most preferred, followed by a short jacket type and then a short operating gown.
5. For female dentist, a long white gown was preferred, followed by a long gown and then a short operating gown.
6. For male dentists, the preference for ordinary clothes was a dress shirt with a neck tie, followed by shirt, jacket, round shirt and training outfit. However, the difference between these preferences was not high.
7. The preference for ordinary clothes of female dentists was a pant suit.
8. For dental hygienists, the preferred outfit was a pant suit, followed by dress, skirt suit, cartoon charactered shirt, and apron. However, the difference between these preferences was not high.
9. The preference for attire under the gown was white dress shirt.
10. White was the preferred color of gown.
11. Most preferred no pattern on the gown.
12. Most preferred no protective equipment be worn. However, the difference between preference was not high.
Based on these results, it seems that parting with the traditional white gown and wearing multi-color and pattern attire will provide psychological stability and help improve children's behavior during treatment.
