Abstract
The results obtained were as follows :
1.In U. davuidian var. japonica, fructose was major in free sugars, aspartic acid in amino acids, palmitic acid in fatty acids, formic acid in organic acids, calcium in minerals, Ca++ in cations and NO3- in anions, respectively.
2.On antioxidative activity of UDEE in vitro, n-butanol fraction was the highest among fractions, and activity of nitrite scavenging was the highest at pH 1.2, and the peroxide value for linoleic acid was increased during the storage.
3.In scavenging effect of oxygen free radicals generated in the ethanol- induced hepatotoxicity in the liver of rats,
① The growth rate of the rats was decreased by ethanol administration, however, was gradually increased to a little lower level than the normal group by administering UDEE.
② It was also observed that the activities of superoxide dismutase(SOD) increased by ethanol were markedly decreased in UDEE administered group as compared with control group. The glutathione(GSH) contents were decreased by ethanol adminstration, however, increased after administering UDEE.
4.In antihypercholesterolemic effect of UDEE on the levels of lipid in serum and the liver of rats fed high cholesterol diet,
① The growth rate of the hypercholesterolemic group(control group) was higher than the normal group, whereas the groups administered UDEE were decreased. The liver weight in control group was significantly higher than that of normal group, but that of control group with UDEE administration was lower than control group.
② The activities of alanine aminotransferase(ALT), asparate amino- transferase(AST) and alkaline phosphatase(ALP) in serum were rather lowered in the UDEE administration group than in the cholesterol administered group.
③ Contents of total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol of in serum were lower in UDEE administration groups than control group while those of HDL-cholesterol were higher.
UDEE increased HDL-C/T-C ratio and lowered atherogenic index. Triglyceride content was not decreased significantly during 6 weeks of experiment, but the contents of free cholesterol and cholesteryl ester were significantly decreased in UDEE administrated groups than control group. The phospholipid content in serum was not affected significantly by UDEE, but it was gradually increased. The hepatic contents of total cholesterol and triglyceride were lowered in UDEE administrated groups than control group.
These results suggest that ethanol extract of U. davuidian var. japonica have a possible positive effect on the liver function in hepatotoxicity-induced rats by ethanol administration, and the fatty liver in hyperlipidemia-induced rats by high cholesterol administration.
