Abstract
This thesis examines the life and characteristics of the composer and analyzes the work, focusing on the researcher's graduation performance program “D. Scarlatti Piano Sonata K.208, K.455”, “L. v. Beethoven Piano Sonata No.30 in E Major, Op.109”, “F. Chopin Fantasy in F minor, Op.49” and “G. Gershwin 3 Preludes for Piano”.
D. Scarlatti(1685-1757) was a leading keyboard composer of the Baroque period who produced nearly 600 pieces for keyboard instruments. Most of his sonatas are composed in a short binary form. and are certainly included featuring lyrical aspect in and instrumental characteristics focus in . In particular, through , one of the techniques of the keyboard instrument pursued by D. Scarlatti, the repetitive notes technique was presented.
L. v. Beethoven(1770-1827) is one of the leading composers of the classical period. This thesis examines the life of composer and the characteristics of his piano sonatas in general. In particular, was discussed with an analytical focus on forms, harmonic progressions, and figurations in this three movements. The sonata consists of three movements. The first movement in a shortened sonata form, the second movement in a fast tempo sonata form featuring the Baroque reminiscence in fugal writing in its light texture, and the third movement in a variation form where his late style is fully featured with fugal variation, long consistent trills and its religious concept through the movements.
F. Chopin(1810-1849) is a representative composer of the Romantic period. His fantasy can be considered in a freer sonata form. This composition presents romantic texture by frequently used diminished chords and chromatic progressions.
G. Gershwin(1898-1937) is an American contemporary composer who developed a new genre of music by combining jazz with traditional classical music. His <3 Prelude> is characterized by its strong jazz aspects such as syncopation, blue notes and swings.
