Abstract

The purpose of this research was to identify the sequential mediating effect of psychological separation and self-identity on the effect of parental attachment on career preparation behavior. This survey was conducted on 307 college students enrolled in universities located in Guangju City. The questionnaire includes measures of parental attachment, career preparation behavior, psychological separation and self-identity. Data analysis was performed using SPSS 26 and Process Macro 4 to verify the sequential mediating effect of psychological independence and self-identity in the relationship between parental attachment and career preparation behavior. The followings are summary of the result: First, parental attachment, career preparation behavior, psychological independence, and self-identity showed a positive correlation with each other. Second, psychological separation mediated the relationship between parental attachment and career preparation behavior. Third, self-identity mediated the relationship between parental attachment and career preparation behavior. Fourth, psychological independence and self-identity sequentially mediated the relationship between parental attachment and career preparation behavior. Based on the results, the implications and limitations of this study were discussed.
