Abstract
This study investigates the effect of complex exercise program activities using Motion-based games on high school students with developmental disabilities on their health-related fitness and class participation attitudes. It suggests primary data and class participation in special education sites. The research questions set up to achieve this purpose are as follows.
First, what is the effect of complex exercise program activities using Motion-based games on the health-related fitness of high school students with developmental disabilities?
Second, what is the process of changing the attitude of high school students with developmental disabilities to participate in classes through multi-exercise program activities using Motion-based games?
In order to execute this research problem, three students diagnosed with developmental disabilities attending a high school in N-si, Jeollanam-do, were selected as subjects for the study. Independent variables are multi-exercise programs activities using Motion-based games, and dependent variables are health-related fitness and class participation attitude. The measurement tool used to measure health-related fitness is the Physical Activity Promotion System for students with disabilities(PAPS-D), developed by the National Institute of Special Education. The multi-exercise program using Motion-based games conducted 30 sessions for ten weeks, and quantitative analysis examined the amount of change by health-related fitness factor, and qualitative analysis examined the processes of change in students' attitude to participate in class. The results are as follows.
First, it can be seen that the multi-exercise program activities using Motion-based games had a positive effect on health-related fitness, excluding the flexibility of high school students with developmental disabilities.
Second, through the analysis of students' thoughts on activities and video data during classes, it was found that the multi-exercise program activities using Motion-based games positively affect the attitude of high school students with developmental disabilities to participate in the class.
As shown in the above research results, it was confirmed that the activity of the multi-exercise program using Motion-based games could be used to improve the health-related fitness and class participation attitude of high school students with developmental disabilities.
