Abstract
This study aims to investigate the students' motivation and satisfaction on college English course by English majors and non-majors. Three research questions were proposed: 1) What are the perception of the college English courses by English majors and non-majors. 2) Are there differences in satisfaction between English majors and non-majors due to the recognition of lectures? 3) Does the satisfaction of lectures of English majors and non-majors influence the learning motivation? To achieve this aim, 99 English majors' and 125 non majors' participated in the study. Data were collected via a participants' questionnaire and depth interviews. After recording the interviews of the respondents, it was analyzed and quoted. Regardless of majors, the majority of the participants indicated that they took the course because it was the required subject. However, non-majors' students had higher satisfaction and learning motivation for the courses than English majors. The English majors pointed out that the level of courses in college remained a basic knowledge and didn't contribute to the improvement of major studies. On the other hands, non-majors mentioned that despite the importance of English, there is no enough lesson related to English in their majors. So they were highly satisfied that they could keep accessing on English. Some pedagogical implications of the study are discussed.
