Abstract
In the information-oriented society, music education could assist people in developing creative thinking ability with the help of information literacy. This is far beyond the role of traditional music education which let people express, appreciate music and make it a way of life. As we can witness the change in 2015 Revised School Curriculum, the information-oriented society clearly has an impact on music education; it is not limited to the boundary of music but blended with other art subjects or curricula as music being in the center. It means that the stance music education purses seems to be changed into convergence education.
The purpose of this study is to suggest a creative music play activity for improved expressive ability in music convergence education. In this research, the characteristics of creative music education was thoroughly examined first. In addition, the reason why we need music-centered convergence education for a creative music education was discussed. Finally, musical play composing class which was blended with other subjects to develop musical creative thinking ability was suggested.
To proceed this study, musical convergence education approach was applied to the 15 weeks duration of music class in a middle school where they implemented the free-semester system. Six students who attended in A middle school in Gyeonggi province were asked to compose a musical play based on the novel 「Sonagi」 by Hwang Sun Won and it was executed as a small group activity. After the group activity, final interview was implemented to verify whether this program was effective. It could be concluded that this musical play composing class which provides various experiences is useful and effective in stimulating the creativity and expressive ability of students.
