Abstract
This study aims to verify the differences of adaptation to school life between two target groups, the adolescents participating in orchestras and the other adolescents not doing the orchestra activity, by conducting a survey.
The purpose of this study, therefore, is to investigate the operation effects of youth orchestras through recording the level of adaptability to school life while they join the orchestras in order to improve adolescents’ personal relationship, self-esteem, and self-expression. The result for this study is as in the following. First, It says the adolescents doing the orchestra activity do well adjust to their school and the figures for them are relatively higher than those for the counterpart. Second, by looking into the variables for the adaptability every part shows a significant difference that finds that the levels of the adaptability of the adolescents participating in the orchestras are relatively higher. Third, the survey also revealed the respondents who join in every activity of four variables are statically higher in the level of the adjustment to school life. Moreover, it shows that in the case of doing the orchestras the female respondents is higher than those of the male respondents in the level of the adaptability. However, the differences in combined selections from sex and participation were not statically significant.
Next, the respondents joining every activity of four variables has adjusted better to their school lives than the other respondent. Furthermore, there was an interactive effect between the class participation and the educational standard of schools in the variable ‘classes’ among the four variables. It shows that the adolescents doing the orchestra activity have more influenced on their school classes than the counterpart.
However, in the variables; ‘teacher-student relationship’, ‘friendship’, and ‘school regulations’, the survey demonstrates there were not any interactive effects on combination of both the participation and the educational standard.
In conclusion, this study reveals that adolescents’ activity for the orchestras positively influences on adolescents’ adjustment to school life. Particularly, the adolescents in middle schools are much affected their adjustment by doing the orchestra activity. On the other hand, in the view of the adjustment followed by both sex and classes, the interactive effects were not shown on participation and interactions. Statically, however, the adolescents who participate in the orchestras account for higher proportion than the counterpart in every variables; ‘teacher-student relationship’, ‘friendship’, ‘school regulations’, and ‘classes’. Therefore, the results show that adolescents’ activity for the orchestras has a positive influence on adolescents’ adjustment to their school lives.
It is expected that this study will help increase interest and support in adolescents’ activity for the orchestras. Moreover, I hope a number of various results for both adolescents’ activity for the orchestras and their adjustment to school life will be brought fromthefollow-upstudies.
