- ABSTRACT
The effect of Saturday Sports club on emotion development of elementary school students
The purpose of this study is in analyzing the effect of participating in Saturday sports on emotional development of elementary school students. To this end, total 428 elementary school students of 220 students who participate in Saturday sports and 208 students who do not were selected as the subject of this study among 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students in Jeollanam-do in 2015, and this study modified and supplemented with verified validity that Kim, Mi Kyung(1985) and Kang, Han Kyung(1996) reconstructed and standardized based on Abrahamse(1970)’s Scale of Emotional Disturbance Symptoms and Wolman’s(1978) Children’s Fears.
For data processing, this study conducted credibility verification by lower variable of factors set in this study, calculated the mean and standard deviation of each variable, independent t-test, and one-way ANOVA, and the results of analyzing when there was difference in variance analysis result using Scheffe’s Post hoc t-test are as follows.
First, it was identified that students who participated in Saturday sport activity showed higher emotional development that students who did not, and showed difference in subfactors as pure emotional response, phobic emotional response, avoidance emotional response, affection emotional response, social emotional response, aggressive emotional response, and misdeed emotional response.
Secondly, it was identified that there was difference in part for emotional development(pure emotional response, phobic emotional response, avoidance emotional response, affection emotional response, social emotional response, aggressive emotional response, and misdeed emotional response) according to personal characteristics(gender, grade level) of research participants.
Thirdly, emotional development according to the participation time in Saturday sports activity showed difference in part, and it was identified that there was difference in subfactors of emotional development as pure emotional response, avoidance emotional response, social emotional response, and aggressive emotional response.
Fourthly, emotional development according to the participation time in Saturday sports activity showed difference in part and it was identified that there was difference in subfactors of emotional development as pure emotional response and social emotional response.
It was identified that participation of elementary school students in Saturday sports activity makes positive effect on healthy mind and healthy body through physical and emotional experience, and creating continuous environment for elementary school students to release their energy and to do physical activities freely will produce more desirable result in emotional development.
