대학 아마추어 오케스트라 운영 현황: 광주광역시 소재 대학교를 중심으로

Abstract

This study is about the operational status of the university amateur orchestra. This study examines the history of the concept and evolution of the orchestra through a literature review. Also, it identifies the concept of a professional orchestra and an amateur orchestra. The subjects of this study are an amateur orchestra affiliated with the University in Gwangju metropolitan city. In particular, the eight University Orchestra holding regular concert at least once a year are the subject of this study. The method of research is research. Research methods were summarized the information collected on the website of orchestra groups. And Focus Group Interview was conducted to the president, concert master, members of the orchestra. Through focus group interview, general status, financial operations, organization, regular concert program and instruction-learning method about the orchestra were investigated. The results were as follows: First, the organization has promoted in a passive way such as a notice on the website and posters in universities when recruiting members. Second, the finances of the group had been managed by membership fees and grant of graduating seniors. Also, donations of some communities helped group finance. Third, members of the orchestra were biased to a specific instrument; it is difficult to organize the orchestra. They tended to choose instruments such as violin and flute that the size is small and it is easy to learn. Fourth, there is a difference between regular concert programs and professional orchestras. Regular concert program includes group photos and names of members in addition to repertoire or music commentary. This introduces the member and helps someone to celebrate the amateur activities. Fifth, the members took a lesson from members of philharmonic orchestra and graduates/undergraduates who majored in music. However, some members even learned from non-specialists. Therefore, the improvements are as follows. First, they need to more actively promote the organization and recruit orchestra. Second, the external financial support is required to run the groups continuously. Third, we must solve the problem of selecting only certain instruments. For example, we must introduce the brass and woodwind instruments and start an instrument rental system. Fourth, regular concert program should be consisted of not only a large-scale symphony but also small ensemble music. Planning a repertoire of dances is one of examples. Fifth, we need to support space for the amateur orchestra. Some spaces are necessary in order to keep or manage the instrument and take a regular musical instrument lesson. Based on the research on the operational status of the university amateur orchestra, it is expected that the amateur orchestra activities become more active.
