ABSTRACT

Teachers′ Perceptions on CCTV installation in Specialized/Inclusive Childcare Centers for Children with Disabilities

There have been few studies on the variables related to teachers’ perceptions on CCTV installation. Thus, the purpose of this study is to examine teachers’ perceptions on CCTV installation in specialized/inclusive childcare centers for children with disabilities and the differences of teachers’ perceptions according to the characteristics of teachers and childcare centers, and then provide baseline data that can contribute to understanding teachers’perceptions on CCTV installation in specialized/inclusive childcare centers.

Research problems are as below.

First, How are teachers’ perceptions on CCTV installation in specialized/inclusive childcare centers for children with disabilities? Second, Do teachers’ perceptions on CCTV installation in specialized/inclusive childcare centers for children with disabilities vary with the characteristics of teachers (age, academic background, position, years of experience, the number of children under care, job stress, and self-efficacy)? Third, Do teachers’ perceptions on CCTV installation in specialized/inclusive childcare centers for children with disabilities vary with the characteristics of childcare centers (types of workplace establishment, characteristics of workplace establishment, and presence of CCTV at workplace)?

A survey was conducted targeting 222 teachers working in 14 specialized/inclusive childcare centers for children with disabilities located in Jeollanam-do. Thus, 222 questionnaires were distributed, all of which were returned (100.0%), and totally 213 were used for the final analysis excluding 9 including nonresponses or unclear answers. The collected data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, F-test, and post-analysis (Scheffé) with SPSS 18.0 Program.

The study results can be summarized as below.

First, teachers’perceptions on CCTV installation in specialized/inclusive childcare centers for children with disabilities generally showed a rather negative tendency. Second, as a result of examining the differences of teachers’ perceptions on CCTV installation in specialized/inclusive childcare centers for children with disabilities according to the characteristics of teachers (age, academic background, position, years of experience, the number of children under care, job stress, and self-efficacy), teachers’ perceptions on CCTV installation in specialized/inclusive childcare centers for children with disabilities showed no difference on age, position, years of experience, or the number of children under care. However, on academic background, teachers having an education level of four-year university degrees or higher turned out to have a less negative attitude to effectiveness, and on job stress, those having a low level of stress turned out to have a less negative attitude to effectiveness. In addition, on self-efficacy, those having a high level of self-efficacy turned out to have a less negative attitude to effectiveness. Third, as a result of examining the differences of teachers’ perceptions on CCTV installation in specialized/inclusive childcare centers for children with disabilities according to the characteristics of childcare centers(types of workplace establishment, characteristics of workplace establishment, and presence of CCTV at workplace), teachers’ perceptions on CCTV installation in specialized/inclusive childcare centers for children with disabilities showed no difference on types of workplace establishment, or characteristics of workplace establishment. However, on presence of CCTV at workplace, childcare centers having CCTV turned out to have a less negative attitude to necessity, effectiveness, and acceptance.
