Abstract
The purpose of this study is to find effective ways of tilizing children’s literature in elementary school English classrooms by developing student-centered activities for Trina Paulus’s Hope for the Flowers. For this study, a areful choice of Children’s Literature was necessary. Considering students' interests and English levels, Hope for The Flowers was selected. The class stages for Hope for the Flowers was divided into three stages: First Encounters, Maintaining momentum and exploiting highlights and Endings. Each stage involves educational and practical activities such as worksheets and teaching-learning procedures for both English teachers and learners. The subjects were 17 sixth grade students at an elementary school in Muan. The main findings of this study are as follows: first, children's literature-based English instruction increased students' interest in reading English. Second, student-centered activities increased students' willingness to write in English.
