Abstract
Math provides the basic of all studies as well as it is an important element in our daily living, as it has a cognitive, functional roles in many aspects. However, in general students with intellectual disabilities tend to have a difficult learning mathematical functions. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to analyze what affects were given to the students with intellectual disabilities calculation(addition & subtraction) accuracy and on-task behavior level when a mathematical smart device application was employed as an instructional tool.
The research questions are like followings, first, what affects are made on students with intellectual disabilities' calculation capability when a mathematical smart device application is used? Second, what affects are made to students with intellectual disabilities’ on-task behavior level during its math class(study) when a smart device application is used for math learning?
In this study, three middle and high school students with intellectual disabilities participated whether to decide its eligibility on needs of education. Smart device application was applied as the intervention method. The main dependent variables were the calculation accuracy and on-task behavior level. In order to measure the students’ calculation accuracy, the researcher had applied evaluations on each session.
When taking a look on the main research results, it can be explained that using a smart device application improves students with intellectual disabilities' mathematical calculation accuracy and on-task behavior level. First of all, all of 3 students’ calculation accuracy was over 80%, the PND showed 100%. Also, the calculation accuracy maintenance was over 90% from all three students, the PND was also 100%.
The purpose of this research was made to analyze whether if smart device application affects the students with intellectual disabilities basic math learning and explore the possibility of applying the smart device application’ on education for students with disabilities.
