Effects of a nature-experience activity on self-esteem and peer relationship of alternative school students

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of a nature-experience activity on self-esteem and peer relationship. In addition, investigation of alternative student's perception about Home Economics subject is also studied.

In order to collect the data a questionnaire survey from 210 middle school students and 143 high school students was conducted. The chi-square analysis by using Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS) Ver. 18.0 used for data analysis. The result of this study was the followings.

First, alternative students generally satisfied with nature-experience activity because they interested in this activity. Second, The field study was most participation degree among the activity for experience and oversea inquiry show most satisfaction as a nature-experience activity. Third, the nature-experience have positive effects on self-esteem. Fourth, the peer relationship can be improved by nature-experience.

From these results, we suggested that it is necessary to invigorate nature-experience in education program for alternative school so that self-esteem and peer relationship of alternative student will be improved.
