ABSTRACT

The field physical education teacher’s view on recognition of athletic club and exploration in future direction of improvement.

This paper aims to explore physical education teachers`recognition of school athletic teams and how to develop school athletic teams and to provide the right understanding of school athletic teams and basic data to explore the future value of school athletic teams. This paper is based on participant observation, a depth interview with 30 physical education teachers and open-ended questionnaires answered by 30 physical education teachers.
The results show that physical education teachers think that the purpose of establishing school athletic teams is to give opportunities of various career search, to provide a holistic education and physical health and to encourage school members to love their schools. The results also show that School athletic teams can contribute to helping their school have a good reputation, to promoting sports for students and local folks. On the other hand, there are negative effects such as inappropriate financial management, corruption, outdated equipment and environment, and prejudice and less understanding of other subjects teachers. However, in spite of the problems, physical education teachers agree on the need of school athletic teams. By school athletic teams, korean elite sports can be developed, school reputation can be better and sports in school can be invigorated.
Finally, the results show that it is necessary to respect human rights and the right to study for student athletes, to treat unpopular student athletes better, to promote a physical education centered classroom and to employ coaches who have fit and proper qualifications. Furthermore, school executive officers should rethink what school athlete teams are and raise school development funds for the transparent financial support.
