Abstract
In order to attract behavioral participation in class from students with intellectual disability, Smart Devices, which are portable, easy to operate and transmutable, could be utilized as educational media.
The purpose of this study is to ascertain what influence the class where students with intellectual disability are able to use Smart Devices have on their behavioral participation in class and behavioral problem.
The subjects were three high school students who attended a special-education school in the city of M. They were given twenty-one times of lessons of social studies in Curriculum of the Basic Educational Courses, where subjects were allowed to use Smart Devices in class.
The learning of social studies lesson with Smart Devices was conducted with three students by applying the design of ‘multiple baseline across subjects’ among subjects in this case to prove the influence of the learning on their behavioral participation in class and behavioral problem from students with intellectual disability
Social studies with Smart Devices increased the rate of all three students’ behavioral participation in class on average and caused the incidence rate of students’ behavioral problem to be reduced during the lesson. Three weeks after the end of the learning with Smart Devices when it was in the maintaining phase, there still existed the increase in participation and the decrease in students’ behavioral problem, although there was an individual difference between the three students. This indicates that the influence of social studies learning with Smart Devices on the students with intellectual disability has continued even after the end of the learning.
In the study afterwards, it is needed to conduct the research of behavioral changes of learners from using Smart Devices in class including subject students with different disability characteristics and age and the development of various different educational contents in the lessons of students with intellectual disability can be expected, where Smart Devices are able to utilized.
