다문화소설에 나타난 이주민의 갈등과 그 해결 양상 비교 연구

Abstract

본 논문은 두 개의 다문화소설, 박범신의 『나마스테』와 이창래의 『영원한이방인』에 나타난 이주민의 갈등과 그 해결 양상을 비교하는 것을 목적으로 하고 있다. 다문화사회로의 진입으로 인해 2000년대부터 몇몇 한국 현대소설들에서 이주민의 서사를 그려낸 다문화소설들이 등장하기 시작하였다. 이러한 다문화소설은 외국인 이주민의 사회적인 문제들을 고발하고 있다는 시사점을 주기도 하지만 그 재현양상에 있어 많은 한계와 문제점들을 내포하고 있다. 대표적인 한계를 내포하고 있는 작품이 바로 박범신의 『나마스테』이다. 본 논문은 이러한 다문화소설의 한계를 극복해 보고자, 국문학의 범위를 넘어서서 실제 이주민의 입장에서 다문화사회의 이야기를 소설로 다룬 한국계 미국인 작가 이창래의 『영원한 이방인(Native Speaker)』과 박범신의 『나마스테』의 비교를 통해 이주민의 갈등과 그 해결 양상이 어떻게 다르게 나타나는지를 살펴볼 것이다. 이주민을 재현하는 방식에 따라 이주민인 주인공의 개인적이거나 사회적인 갈등이 어떻게 달리 나타나는지를 살펴보고, 아울러 주인공과 주변 인물들의 관계, 즉 개인적 측면에서의 정체성에 대한 갈등의 해소가 어떤 방식으로 달리 나타나는지 영문학과 국문학을 아우르는 학제 간 연구를 통해 다문화주의에 입각한 문학의 보편적 가치를 탐색해볼 것이다. 아울러, 향후 본격화될 다문화사회에서 한국문학이 나아갈 올바른 방향을 모색해 본다.|Because multicultural society has been come to us, from 2000, multicultural novels dealing with stories of immigrants have been increased in several Korean modern novels. Though these novels can give us implications on social problems of foreign immigrants, there are many limitations and problems on realizing their stories in them. 『Namaste』 of Pak Beomsin is a representative work that has these limitations. In this paper, in order to overcome these limitations of multicultural novels, it was trying to compare 『Namaste』 of Pak Beomsin with 『Native Speaker』 that dealt with actual multicultural stories over the range of Korean literature and written by a Korean-American, Lee Changre, and then, it was also trying to examine their differences on the conflict of immigrants and solving process. It was trying to check how they can change individual or social conflict of an immigrant, main character of their novels in accordance with methods relating to realizing immigrants. Moreover, through interdisciplinary study between English and Korean literature, it was trying to explore universal values of the literature about what methods can differentiate solving process on individual identity between their main characters and surrounding characters. Besides, because multicultural society will begin in earnest in the future, it was also trying to find right direction for Korean literature in this society.
