A Study of After-school Music Program
in the Middle School's
: Focused on Gwangju Metropolitan City

The purpose of this study is to investigate the actual conditions of after-school musical program in the middle school.
Five schools were randomly selected from each administrative district of Gwangju. Then after-school programs of each school were investigated. In addition, the questionnaire survey was conducted to part-time lecturers at district of Gwangju Metropolitan City.
The Gwangsan-gu and Buk-gu have more extensive programs than other districts. Of the entire programs, the Gwangsan-gu provides more curricular programs, Gwangsan-gu and Buk-gu have more extra-curricular activities. In case of musical activity programs, there are no distinct differences among districts. Statistical analysis by ANOVA also show, insignificance. Many popular music-realted classes are opened intending to raise students' participation. And guitar-oriented programs were prefered for its convenience of group teaching.
Talent·Aptitude programs are taught by full-time instractors, but music programs are by part-time lectures. It was seen as attribute of music practical education. Looking at the results of a survey of music program part-time lecturers, cooperation of the school was supported to part-time lecturer to some degree. But, due to frequent replacement of part-time lecturer, it is difficult to maintain the sustainability of practical education and solid administration for student.
Programs hane increased in quantity and professional instructors have been secured compared to early stage, but the music educational programs have not been activated yet. Continuous promotion of well designed music educational programs are needed. And supporting sufficient materials for educational practice are also important. These methods would be implemented considering special characteristics of music education and practical techniques.
