- Abstract
- This study set out to produce a web-based information education system as a means of helping the silver generation, who are prone to alienation of informatization when the society is moving fast toward an information society and entering the stage of aging society, increase their abilities of information utilization and thus their quality of life.
Trying to build an effective system, the investigator examined the characteristics of information society, information gaps among the different generations, and life changes among the silver generation in the information society. Based on the analysis results of the characteristics, information education, and obstacles of the silver generation, the investigator selected learning content to be used on the computer and in the Internet and employed a web-based learning system which allowed for repetitive study.
The system pursued such design directions as helping the silver generation get rid of fear for information devices, increasing convenience for them, and assisting them with the acquisition of basic and applied knowledge through repetitive study. The basic course was designed to stir interest in them and help them master computer functions through play-style study, and the applied course to maintain their interest in study and boost their confidence through model learning in video instructions, practice learning through mimicking, and review of core points according to the learning content about everyday life.
Users can have access to the system, which was implemented with flash and built on a web server, by being connected to the web without log-in. Thus they can engage in play-style study and model-practice study regardless of time and place limitations. The system will hopefully contribute to the silver generation getting accustomed to the information devices, taking active and positive part in information education, and improving their abilities to utilize information.
