- Abstract
- This study examined Kodaly's Method that narrows individual differences in various musical abilities and dispositions among middle school students and enhances their interests in singing. Kodaly's Method aims to present teaching methods that narrow individual differences of middle school students through their musical experiences, inspire them to have interests in singing and help their musical growth.
For the purposes, this study reviewed theses, national and international books, and web sites on Kodaly's Method to present the life of Kodaly, his educational philosophy and teaching methods, and lesson plans in which rhythm teaching, Movable-Do System, hand signs, visual aids and singing are applied.
The lesson plans this study presents are characterized by:
First, students can enhance rhythmic sense through various rhythm readings.
Second, word cards are presented to help students for easy understanding through use of visual aids and them to enhance their ability to memorize notes.
Third, students can have senses of tunes and abilities to read notes through solmization based on Movable-Do System.
Fourth, students can have more senses of pitch using hand signs.
Fifth, students can sing a cappella with less use of the piano. It is inappropriate for our educational reality to apply Kodaly's Method for our singing education as it is. Therefore, it is expected that if it is adapted to our educational reality, it can bring good results.
