김소진 소설 연구 -기억의 서사화 양상을 중심으로-

김소진 소설의 특징 중의 하나는 유년 시절의 체험이 작가의 기억을 통해 소설 속에 나타난다는 점이다. 그래서 본고는 김소진 소설을 기억의 서사화 양상에 초점을 맞추어 분석하였다. 그간 김소진에 관한 논의는, 화자의 기억을 바탕으로 인물들의 특성을 파악하고 인물들에 대한 화자의 인식 변화 과정을 다루는 연구가 주를 이루었다. 또한 인물 연구의 대부분이 ‘아버지’에 대한 논의에 집중되었다. 하지만 김소진의 소설에서 이들의 등장은 기억을 통해서만 이루어지고 있다는 점에 대한 논의가 한 번도 이뤄지지 않았다. 따라서 본고에서는 김소진의 소설에서 나타나는 ‘기억’에 논의를 한정시켜 김소진 소설에서 ‘기억’이 지닌 의미에 대해 살펴보았다. 본고의 연구는 김소진의 전집 2권, 3권, 4권에 해당하는 단편 소설들을 연구 대상(세 권에 해당하는 책으로 미완성 장편에 해당하는 ‘양파’는 제외시킴.)으로, 프로이트와 벤야민의 기억이론을 적용하여 분석해보려는 시도로 씌여진다. 단편들 외에도 김소진의 사적 기억을 뒷받침 해 줄 수 있는 대담글, 서평, 수필과 같은 기록들을 참고하였다. Ⅰ장에서는 이 연구의 목적과 방법을 밝히고, 김소진 소설에 대한 기존의 연구사를 정리하였다. Ⅱ장에서는 김소진의 작품 중 초·중기에 해당하는 소설들을 중심으로, 김소진의 사적 기억이 많이 나타나고 있음을 살펴보았다. 그리고 사적기억의 내용과 재현 방식으로 나눠 살펴보았다. 사적 기억의 내용은 그의 소설에서 가장 많이 기억되고 있는 ‘아버지’를 중심으로 소설 속에서 기억이 어떻게 변모되어 가는지 살펴보았다. 기억의 재현 방식에 대해서는 벤야민의 ‘무의지적 기억’ 이론에 기대어 그 의미를 파악해 보았다. Ⅲ장에서는 후기 작품에 해당하는 4권에 실린 소설들을 토대로, 김소진에게 ‘사적 기억’으로써 주로 등장했던 ‘기억 내용’이 ‘기억 그 자체’로서 확장됨을 살펴보았다. 그 과정은 세계에 대한 이중적 관점에서 비롯됨을 살폈다. 그리고 이러한 관점은 이제까지의 ‘기억’이 ‘은폐기억’일 수 있는 가능성을 열어준다고 보았다. 그리고 이러한 ‘은폐기억’의 발견은 자기 성찰의 모습과 연결되고 있음을 살펴보았다. 마지막 Ⅳ장에서는 앞의 논의를 종합하는 장으로, 김소진 소설에 나타난 ‘기억’의 의미를 개인적 측면과 사회적 측면으로 정리해 보았다. 김소진은 개인의 특수한 기억을 서사화한 작품들을 통해 자신을 이해하고 자기 정체성을 형성할 수 있게 되었다. 그리고 김소진의 기억 서사화가 90년대 시대에 의미 있는 작업이었음을 밝혀보았다.|ABSTRACT

A Study on Kim So-Jin's Novels -Centered on the aspect of memory's Narrative-

One of the characteristics of Kim So-Jin's novel is that experiences of childhood are presented through memories of the author. Therefore, this study analysed Kim's novel focusing on narration of memories. Most of the studies on Kim So-Jin focus on identification of characters based on memories of the narrator and changing process of narrator's perception on them. Most of the previous studies on characters focused on discussion on fathers, but there was no research on the fact that fathers appear only through memories of the narrator. Therefore, this study focuses on ' memories' in Kim's novels and their meaning. This study targets Volume 2, 3, and 4 of short stories by Kim So-Jin (except 'Onion' uncompleted), and applies the Memory Theory developed by Freud and Benjamin to analyse them. We use reviews, discussions, and essays to support private memories of the author in addition to short stories. ChapterⅠ identifies the purpose and method of the study, and presents the history of existing research on Kim, So-Jin's novels. Chapter Ⅱ examines descriptive methods of Kim's private memories according to contents and representational methods centering on novels written in early and middle period of his career. In respect to private memories, this study looks at how his memories have changed centering on fathers who appear frequently in novels. For the representational method of memories, this study relies on Benjamin's memorie involontaire to identify the meaning. Chapter Ⅲ identifies how memories as personal memories expand as memories themselves based on the novels in Volume 4. The process was derived from dual perspective toward the world, which presents a possibility that memories may be suppressed memories, and discovery of the suppressed memories leads to self-reflection. Chapter Ⅳ categorizes the meaning of memories in his novels into individual aspect and social aspect. This study suggests that Kim So-Jin understands himself and establishes his identity through narrative stories, and his narrative memories has a significant effect on Korean literature in 1990s.
