만성질환 학부모가 학생의 학업성취도에 미치는 영향

Abstract

연구배경 : 교육 현장에서 학생들 간의 학업 성취도에 있어서 수준 차이가 있다는 것은 잘 알려진 사실이다. 이러한 학업 성취도의 격차는 개인 간에만 나타는 것은 아니다. 집단 간에도 나타나며 남녀 간, 학교 간, 도시·농촌 지역 간, 부자와 빈자의 계층 간에도 나타난다는 사실이 여러 연구 자료를 통해서 확인된 바 있다. 특히 부모의 사회·경제적 지위에 따른 학업 성취도의 격차에 대한 이해는 여러 연구를 통해 제시되어 왔으나, 부모의 질병 유무가 학생에게 어떤 영향을 미치는가에 대한 연구는 지금까지 보고된 바가 없다. 본 연구는 학부모의 만성 질환 유무가 학생의 학업 성취도에 어떤 영향을 미치며, 학생을 지도하는 교사에게 어떤 영향을 미치는지에 대해 알아보고자 한다. 연구방법 : 본 연구의 방법은 인문계 고등학교 3학년 학생들을 대상으로 학부모의 만성 질환 유무가 학생의 학업 성취도에 영향을 미치는지를 파악하기 위한 서술적 조사 연구로서 2007년 4월 1일부터 2007년 4월 30일까지 광주광역시 인문계 고등학교 3학년 학생들을 연구의 대상으로 하여 자료를 수집하였다. 연구 도구는 본 연구를 위해 필요한 대상자의 학업 성취도 평가, 사회·경제적 배경, 학교 내의 사회적 특성, 교사의 기대 등의 관한 항목을 자기 기입식 및 직접 면담식 설문 조사를 통해 연구 분석하였다. 연구결과: 본 연구의 연구 결과, 기존의 연구 결과처럼 부모의 사회·경제적 지위가 높을수록 학업 성취도 상위권이 더 높게 나타나 의미있는 차이를 보였다. 뿐만 아니라 부모의 만성 질환 유무가 학업 성취도에 영향을 미치는 것으로 분석되었다. 아버지가 만성 질환을 가지고 있는 경우, 학생의 학업 성취도는 60% 이상에서 하위권을 보였다. 어머니의 경우도 마찬가지로, 만성 질환이 없는 경우 학업 성취도 상위권이 70% 이상으로 유의하게 높았다. 또한 학부모의 만성 질환 유무와 교사의 기대와의 관계에서도 교사의 차별 대우 지각 여부에서 상위권과 중위권은 대체로 그렇다가 유의하게 높았으나, 하위권에서는 매우 그렇다가 훨씬 더 높게 나타났다. 결론 : 본 연구를 토대로 결론을 내리면, 학부모의 만성 질환 유무가 학생의 학업 성취도에 많은 영향을 미친다. 특히 어머니의 만성 질환이 자녀의 학업 성취도에 더 많은 영향을 미친다는 것이다. 뿐만 아니라 학교 생활에 가장 중요한 영향을 미치는 교사가 의식·무의식적으로 학생의 부모가 만성 질환을 가지고 있을 때 교사의 기대에 차이를 두고 있다는 것은 매우 고무적인 일이 아닐 수 없다. 즉, 학부모가 가지고 있는 질병이 기타 다른 가정 환경처럼 학생에 대한 교사의 기대를 달리 하고 있다는 사실이다. 이러한 연구 결과를 통해, 교육의 일선에서 학생들을 지도하는 교사들이 학생들의 가정 환경을 여러 관점에서 인지하고 학부모의 질병 유무를 파악하여 학업 성취도 격차를 줄이기 위해 방법을 연구해야 한다. 뿐만 아니라 학생들에게 긍정적 교사의 기대를 높일 수 있는 방안을 모색해야 할 것으로 생각된다.|The purpose of this study is to understand and analyze the effect of parents with chronic diseases in student's academic achievement. It is well known that there are differences of academic accomplishment among students. These differences stemmed not only from the individuals but also from the environment such as regions, schools, economical backgrounds of their parents. There are several researches which are about co-relations between student's academic achievements and their parents' social, economical status. However, there are rare researches about co-relations between student's academic accomplishments and parents with chronic diseases. Therefore, this research intended to examine how the parents with chronic diseases can affect students' academic achievements. Procedure of the research was conducted on the third graders of a senior high school in Gwangju. The duration was from April the 1st to April the 30th in 2007. The survey results was collected to figure out if parents with chronic diseases would affect student's academic achievements. The research method was based on the questionnaire which was asking about student's academic accomplishments, social-economic backgrounds, characteristics of the school, and teacher's expectations. The subjects were required to write them down on the sheet or to be interviewed. The major finding of the study were as follows : First, from the outcome of the research, high level of academic achievements was reflected by their parents' high level social and economic status. To add it more, it is turned out that parents with chronic disease affected the student's academic achievements meaningfully. In the case of that student's father has a chronic disease, 60 percent of the students showed low level accomplishments. Also, in the case of that students' mother has no chronic disease, 70 percent of the students showed high level accomplishments. Second, low- level students in academic accomplishment whose parents have chronic disease regarded that there were considerable teacher's prejudice toward them while medium and high level students said there were meaningful prejudices. The conclusion of this research is that parents with chronic disease could affect student's academic achievements. Especially mothers with chronic disease affected more than fathers. In addition to it, the teacher's expectations toward students were different upon student's backgrounds -whether parents have chronic disease or not- like other home background factors of the students. It implicates that teachers need to be aware of student's home background and environment including parents' health conditions. At the same time, they are needed to consider the ways to reduce the gap of the academic achievements between the student which might stem from the teacher's prejudice. Also, needed to give the positive feedbacks for the students who have sick parents.
