Abstract
The purpose of this study is to identify the Internet addiction tendencies of teenagers' by grade, gender, and the type of Internet use.
In addition, this study tries to identify the self-efficacy and self-control among teenagers in cyberspace with Internet addiction tendencies and to find out the effect of these variables on these tendencies.
This study intendes to provide information and materials for parents and teachers to understand students in cyberspace, to set a basic direction for the education of teenagers', and to develop an Internet addiction prevention program.
The subjects of this study were 413 students from high schools located in Dong Gu, Gwangju city. Measurement tools used were the Internet addiction scale, the scale of self-efficacy in the cyberspace, and a self-control scale.
To process the collected data, the SPSS 15.0 statistical program was used. Pearson's Product-Moment Correlation Coefficient and a Simple Regression Analysis have also been conducted for the collected data.
Through the process of this research, the following conclusions have been made.
First, concerning the degree of Internet addiction by group, the high-risk and potential risk groups were 5.8% and 9.4%, respectively, which indicates that users at an Internet addiction level amounted for about 15.2%.
Second, results of the basic analysis of overall responses and the types of Internet use showed private blogs to be at(35.0%), and Games(28.6%)at.
Third, between grades, there is little meaningful difference in Internet addiction and self-control, which means the first grade and the second grade are on the similar level. Also they are similar in the Internet-self-efficacy, but the first grade shows higher Internet-learning
-efficacy than the second grade.
As regarding gender, male students show higher rate of potential risk and high-risk groups than female students. As regarding self-effic
acy, male students show higher connection-formation-efficacy of Internet than female students. As regarding self-control power, male students show higher self-action-control power than female students.
Forth, as higher Internet addiction degree is, higher Internet-use-con
fidence, Internet-learning-efficacy, and Connection-frmation-efficacy of Internet are, which belong to efficacy level of students with use of Internet, but lower Intention-exchange-efficacy of Internet is. Also, more serious Internet addiction degree is, lower control power of connection with other person or self-action-control power specially tend to be.
