Abstract
-The Study on Recognition of Dancing Performance -
In the 21st century, as culture has become a main industry that creates high-added value and in particular, culture and art are an important part of economic paradigm in knowledge industry. Dance art as an area of artistic industry is a common and instinctive behavior coexisting with human beings. To attract many audience as an artistic industry of dance, dance groups or directors have to provide more dance works that can satisfy the needs of audience.
So, this study is to examine recognition of the public to secure audience and improve quality of culture. To achieve this goal, this study targets 50 common people who live in Gwangju, are interested in dance and have experiences to see dance performance. This study collects data through an intensive interview that is evaluated as the most outstanding in qualitative studies, classifies the data collected through an inductive analytic way, and secures the truth of the data through evaluation of the results, agreement between associates, and multi-angled analysis.
Using the research methods and procedures mentioned above, this study obtains the results on recognition of dance performance by the public as follows:
First, the subjects' motivation to see performance is influenced by the three factors such as associates, schools and family.
Second, in respect to change in recognition before and after the attendance to performance, the subjects answer that they have negative recognition on dance as they are not interested in it, people who are concerned enjoy dance, and dance is boring and difficult. After the attendance, they answer that they recognize dance as exciting, and fun and impressing.
Third, in respect to differentiation of dance performance from performance of other genres, the subjects answer that there is no sympathy between dancers and audience and it is difficult to understand what the dance means only with their physical representation.
Audio-visual elements of dance performance as a composite art can induce interest from the audience and give fun and impression to them.
Fourth, factors to promote attendance include excitement before attendance, fun and impression, emotional security, resolution of stress, expansion of artistic sense and self-reflection.
Fifth, the subjects present the following suggestions: more performance place should be secured, active promotion should be encouraged, opportunities of performance attendance should be expanded, dance education programs should be supplemented, and dance composition should be easier to understand.
