최윤 소설에서 젠더 범주화에 대한 연구

Abstract

This study is based on Judith Butler’s perspective on the problem of forming the condition of human life in Choi Yoon's novel. It attempts, through Choi Yoon's novel, to have an understanding of gender dichotomy, as revealed in the novel, and an understanding of Choi Yoon's technical characteristics that present alternatives to dichotomous gender. Choi Yoon's points out that the modern novel itself is masculinized, but the opposition of masculinity is not regarded as femininity, whereas femininity is not the opposite concept of masculinity. Choi Yoon's diagnoses that the two sexes classified based on dichotomy are similar and not conflicting. For Choi Yoon's, the sex of a woman and that of a man are not a conflicting or paired concept, but a concept of being. Choi Yoon's reinterprets the limitations of dichotomous sex through asexuality. In particular, this study focuses on second-person narration, and the discovery of “Soksagim(whispering)” techniques based on research on a second-person point of view and awareness of asexuality. The work 「From Forest to Forest」 attempts to redesign the entire novel as a plot with repeated and overlapping voices and images of “I” and “you.” Even if the disorderly imposed numbers are randomly or sequentially arranged, the stories do not continue. However, it is difficult to say that each chapter of 「From Forest to Forest」 is scattered without any meaning or context, but it can be said that this work implies a gender-based intention as the purpose of securing space for asexuality. In addition to the technical study, this study also attempts to look at the new aspects of gender overcoming the dichotomy, as presented by Choi Yoon's through the characters in the novel, and check the reality that the characters wish to overcome through this. Reality checked through novels is the body, voice, face, and memory that need reorganization. In the context of gender, Choi Yoon's hopes for a world that has never been experienced to come, as a place where agency can be realized.|본고는 최윤의 소설에서 인간으로서의 삶의 조건 형성의 문제를 주디스 버틀러의 젠더학의 관점을 참조해 연구한 것이다. 최윤의 소설을 통해 본 연구가 시도하고자 하는 것은 소설 속에 드러나 있는 이분법적인 성별의 이해와, 이분법적인 성별에 대안을 제시하는 최윤의 소설 기법적인 특성에 대한 이해다. 최윤은 근대소설 자체가 남성화됐다고 지적하지만, 남성성의 반대가 여성성이라고 보지는 않으며, 마찬가지로 여성성을 남성성의 반대 개념으로 제시하지도 않는다. 이분법에 근거해 분류되는 두 개의 성별은 서로 대립하는 것이 아니라 엇비슷하다고 최윤은 진단한다. 최윤에게 있어 여성과 남성의 성별은 대립하거나 짝을 이루는 개념이 아니라 그저 존재하는 개념이다. 최윤은 이분법적인 성별의 한계성을 무성성을 통해서 재해석한다. 특히 본 연구에서 중점적으로 살펴보고자 하는 기법은 2인칭 시점 서술이며, 2인칭에 대한 연구와 무성성에 대한 인식을 기반으로 하는 ‘속삭임’ 기법의 발견이다. 숲에서 숲으로」의 경우, ‘나’와 ‘너’의 반복되고 중첩되는 목소리와 이미지로써 플롯으로서의 소설의 몸을 새롭게 구성하기를 시도한다. 무질서하게 부과된 숫자를 임의로 혹은 순서대로 배열한다고 하더라도 이야기들은 이어지지 않는다. 그렇다고 「숲에서 숲으로」의 각각의 단장이 아무런 의미나 맥락 없이 흩어져 있다고 보기는 어렵다. 무성성의 공간을 확보하기 위한 취지로서 「숲에서 숲으로」는 젠더학적인 의도를 내포하고 있다고 평가할 수 있다. 기법적인 연구와 더불어 최윤이 소설 속에서 인물들을 통해 제시하는 이분법적인 성별을 극복하는 젠더의 새로운 양상들을 살펴보고, 이를 통해 극복하고자 하는 현실을 점검해보고자 한다. 소설을 통해서 점검되는 현실들은 재조직화될 필요가 있는 육체이자 목소리이며, 얼굴이자 기억이다. 최윤은 젠더의 맥락 속에서 행위 주체성과 그것이 실현가능한 공간으로서, 한번도 경험해보지 못한 세계가 도래하기를 희망한다.
