- Abstract
- Purpose: Aims of this study were to examine geriatric hospital nurses’ turnover intention, job stress and job commitment, and to identify factors that affect turnover intention. Methods: Participants were 202 nurses working at 21 geriatric hospitals in Gwangju city and Jeollanam-Do. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis with SPSS (version 22.0) computer program.

Results: The participants’ turnover intention average score was 3.16±0.60, the average score of job stress was 3.34±0.44, and the average score of job commitment was 3.25±0.46. Turnover intention was significantly correlated with job stress and job commitment. Factors which positively impacted nurses' turnover intention were age, job satisfaction, and job stress. These variables explained 26% of the variance in turnover intention of nurses. Conclusion: The findings from this study suggest solutions to decrease nurses’ turnover intention and provide basic background for nursing intervention strategies to improve turnover intention for nurses.
