- Abstract
- Reservoir is a very useful hydraulic structure, which can prevent water from flowing in the downstream direction and store water. In this country, the reservoirs are approx. 17,569 capable of storing 2,772 million-㎥ of water and offering agricultural water to 450,000-hectare farms. Additionally, the reservoir plays a remarkable role to reduce flooding by storing water during floods.
Agricultural reservoirs have been constructed to supply only the agricultural use without flood control. Since many agricultural dams were damaged during the typhoon Rusa in 2002, the government strongly began the replacement project for the existing agricultural dams from 2003.
The aim of this study was to investigate the applicability of the geological survey for disaster prevention of agricultural reservoir, the preparation for the emergency could be performed as well as the methods could be used on disaster prevention and management.
The convention(precise) survey was performed to examine the risk assessment in agricultural reservoirs of 101 sites in Jeonnam area, Korea. For comparison, the geological survey was also conducted.
Results of the precise survey showed poor risk level(D∼E) of agricultural reservoirs of 34%, indicating that the agricultural reservoirs in this study area were appeared poorly. The poor risk level of the geological survey was 66%.
A comparison analyses under same sites for the precise survey and the geological survey, good risk level(A∼C) in the precise survey and poor risk level in the geological survey of 41% was showed.
Results demonstrate that the accuracy enhances of disaster prevention and management due to the geological survey inclusion of geophysical prospecting, boring test, permeability test and standard peneration test. However, precise survey could not contribute to the disaster prevention and management in our investigation conditions because the precise survey was not accurate enough to promote the water leak.
