Associations of Performance and Perception on Preventive Dental Care Tasks with Job Satisfaction among Some Dental Hygienists

Objectives: This study was performed to investigate the associations of performance and perception on preventive dental care tasks with job satisfaction among some dental hygienist. Methods: The study subjects were 275 dental hygienists working at dental clinics in Mokpo-si, Jeollanam-do. The data were collected by self-administered questionnaire composed of general, Job-related and worksite-related characteristics, scales of performance and perception on preventive dental care tasks including importance level and need for education and job satisfaction. The used statistical analysis were t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis to find the associated factors with Job satisfaction. Results: The means scores of job satisfaction and performance, importance level, need for education on preventive dental care tasks were 3.23±0.40, 3.35±0.60, 3.85±0.51,and 3.78±0.51 respectively. In simple analysis, the statistically significant variables with job satisfaction were marital status, monthly income, working department, position, workday system, educational support and employee welfare. Job satisfaction had statistically significant positive correlation with performance (r=0.263, p<0.001), importance level (r=0.211, p<0.001), need for education (r=0.242, p<0.001) on preventive dental care tasks. As a result of multiple regression analysis, performance (β=0.088, p=0.033) and need for education (β=0.139, p=0.002) on preventive dental care tasks were statistically associated with job satisfaction. Above this duty on management support (β=0.722, p=0.005), receiving educational support when they need it (β=0.141, p=0.045), moderate (β=0.172, p=0.004) and good state (β=0.461, p=0.001) of employee welfare were statistically associated with job satisfaction. Conclusions: This study showed that job satisfaction increased as performance and perception on preventive dental care tasks were increased. Therefore, it would be necessary that preventive dental case tasks of dental hygienists should be settled down and a plan should be prepared urgently to improve professionalism.
