Abstract

The effect of suicidal attempt of friend and family on suicidal ideation and attempt of adolescents

This study, first of all, is to investigate suicidal intentions and attempts of middle and highschool students according to general characteristics and health-related characteristics and, lastly, the effect of suicidal attempt of friend and family on suicidal attempt and ideation. Data obtained from 4,772 highschool students from 155 different institutions bound to G city. SPSS ver. 21.0 statistic program was used for analysis. As a result, in case of subjects having acquaintances with experience of suicidal attempts, they appeared to show 1.7 times higher suicidal ideation level(95%, confidence interval 1.24-2.32) than those without, and those who have acquaintances having experience of suicidal attempts have 2.24 times higher suicidal attempts(95%, confidence interval 1.29-3.89) than those without. In conclusion, the results of the research imply that, in order to reduce suicidal ideation and attempts effectively, we needs to provide distinguished program and service containing preventive consultations for suicidal attempt and ideation preceded by selection for those who have acquaintances with experience of suicidal attempts.
