Abstract A Research Study on Physical Therapists’ RecognitionDegree about Complementary & Alternative Medicine

The purpose of this study is to make a research study on physical therapists’ recognition degree about Complementary & alternative medicine. The subjects of this research study are 84 physical therapists working for medical treatment hospitals located in Jeonju City and Jeongeup City, Jeonbuk Province. Data were gathered from July 4 to 15, 2016. The collected data were analyzed with the statistical package SPSS WIN 23.0. Statistical data on frequency analysis and percentage were obtained, and t-test, one way ANOVA, Cross tabulation Analysis and χ² exam were carried out. Besides, Multiple Response Analysis was conducted to resolve plural responses. The results of this study are as follows : 1. 92.9% of physical therapists have ever heard complementary & alternative medicine. 2. 30.8% of physical therapists come to know complementary & alternative medicine through mass media such as television, newspaper and magazines. 3. 39% of physical therapists use complementary & alternative medicine to get a sense of security psychologically and mentally. 4. 61% of physical therapists feel that complementary & alternative medicine plays a supplementary role in medical treatment. 5. 37.5% physical therapists know that complementary & alternative medicine can be applied to treating chronic diseases. 6. 43.9% of physical therapists feel that the problem of complementary & alternative medicine is unscientific. 7. 76.2% of physical therapists feel the way of the best medical treatment is that the hospital treatment and complementary & alternative medicine should go together. 8. 57.1% of physical therapists have never experienced complementary & alternative medicine. Therefore therapists have to be concerned about complementary & alternative medicine positively. 9. Most of physical therapists are satisfied with the results of the use of complementary & alternative medicine. The whole average is 3.28. 10. Most of physical therapists are satisfied with the results of the use of complementary & alternative medicine at medical treatment hospital that they work for. The whole average is 3.44 11. When physical therapists are asked about appling complementary & alternative medicine at medical treatment hospital as supplementary treatments for patients, 52.4% of them give an affirmative answer and 33.3% show a general answer. 12. 64.3% of physical therapists want the education of complementary & alternative medicine. The first reason of the necessity of complementary & alternative Medicine is the various offer of care, the second reason is the personal health care, and the third reason is the satisfaction of learning. 13. When physical therapists are asked about institutional problems to induce complementary & alternative medicine, 52.4% of them think about the foundation of research center for a scientific proof. 14. To encourage the treatment of complementary & alternative medicine, 45.2% of physical therapists think about the popularization for health care. In conclusion, medical professionals who work for medical treatment Hospitals should show much interest in complementary & alternative medicine. And professionals who major in complementary & alternative Medicine and health authorities have to study the efficiency and stability of complementary & alternative medicine. Thus they must provide patients and the public with standardized systems for treatment without side effects.
