Objectives: This study was performed to identify the association between self-care and quality of life among tuberculosis patients.
Methods: The study subjects were 163 tuberculosis patients in a hospital Gwangju. The data were collected by self-administered questionnaire composed of questions about general and disease-related characteristics, self-care and quality of life. The used statistical analysis were t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis to find the associated factors with quality of life.
Results: The means of self-care and quality of life were 67.96±12.65 and 94.46±14.44, respectively. In simple analysis, the statistically significant variables with quality of life were gender, marital status, living with family, educational level, occupation, monthly income, smoking status, exercise, interruption of treatment, self-rated health, co-morbidity and health insurance. Quality of life was statistically significant positive correlation with self-care (r=.425). In the result of multiple regression analysis, quality of life was associated with self-care, marital status, educational level occupation and self-rate health.
Conclusions: The self-care was positively associated with quality of life of tuberculosis patients. To improve the quality of life of tuberculosis patients, there should be considered to develop the education program for enhancing self-care.
