- Abstract
- As the 21st century is the era of culture, creativity and creation, our sense of value is changing from technology-centered to culture and art-centered, and the culture of the new era has been converged and shared with various academic areas to create more possibility and development.
In particular, art and science are one of the ways to develop in technological and physical aspects over diverse areas of profession by finding and using mental capability of human beings and maintain a close relationship to find what are inherent in nature. Such convergence of specialized areas is designed to understand regularity of complication inherent in nature. Therefore, we have to pay more attention to emotional expression of culture and art through scientific thinking today when science is rapidly being converged with art. In the world of nature, complex events are connected and generalized to decide the entire structure, which is similar to the principle of fractal and deliver the fractal on nature through the image of tree as an interconnected net of ecological structures. This study looked into common factors with complex nature of nature such as trees, coastline, branches of blood vessels, leaves of ferns and cauliflower through the fractal theory, giving a focus on characteristics of self-similarity and circularity which are the most important in fractal. The study analysed modern paintings where the principle of fractal is introduced and discovered a conceptual system of the process with the fractal presented as a new concept to achieve more possibility and creativity with the advent of the new era. Then the study intensively looked into the process of building the relationship between my paintings and the fractal through various approaches on its physical and geometric aspects and chaotic nature, and presented the multi-dimensional theoretical ground through connection of academic approaches on interactive properties between paintings and nature with self-similarity and circularity. Through such process, the study understood the past and the present, discovered new possibility, inserted the future-converging fractal into my paintings, and reorganized its properties and concepts to make a new paradigm for a new era.
