조선 민화의 화조화를 이용한 도자조형 연구

Abstract

문화의 세계화로 인해 세계 각국의 다른 문화들을 쉽게 접할 수 있으며 향유할 수 있는 오늘날, 우리 문화를 지키기 위해서는 문화에 대한 주체성을 갖는 게 가장 중요하다. ‘가장 한국적인 것이 가장 세계적이다’는 말이 있다. 개인의 개성표출을 중요시여기는 오늘날, 새롭고 색다른 소재를 찾기 시작한 한국의 예술가들도 전통적인 이미지에 관심을 돌리기 시작하면서 우리나라가 가지고 있는 특색과 전통을 작품으로 표현하는 사례도 점차 늘어나고 있다. 이에 본 연구자는 전통 화조화의 이미지를 차용하여 작품을 제작하고자 한다. 작품제작 전 조선시대 민화와 화조화에 대한 이론적 배경을 구축하고 현대적으로 활용된 사례를 조사하여 작품제작의 당위성을 찾고자 하였다. 화조화는 중국미술의 영향을 크게 받았으나, 우리 문화와 환경에 맞게 독자적 화풍으로 발전하였다. 예로부터 우리 선조들은 꽃과 새의 의인화를 통해 장수, 행복, 출세, 부귀, 다산, 득남 등 삶의 욕망과 염원을 담아내었다. 시대가 변함에 따라 삶의 모습과 가치관들 또한 변화하여 사람들이 소망하는 바는 달라졌다. 그러나 과학의 발달로 모든 것들이 수치화되고 증명될 수 있음에도 불구하고, 눈에 보이지 않는 신의 존재를 믿으며 바람과 염원 등을 기도하는 풍습은 변하지 않았다. 때문에 민화의 화조화에 담긴 상징성을 현대의 환경과 문화에 맞게 변용하고 재해석하여 작품을 제작할 수 있었다. 본 연구를 통해 민화의 화조라는 소재를 이용하여 현대인들이 바라는 소망을 한국의 전통적 특색을 지닌 조형으로 표현함으로써, 작품 안에서 전통과 현대가 소통하고 공감할 수 있는 유토피아를 보여주고자 하였다. 아울러 앞으로 전통 민화의 발전방향과 더불어 한국적 소재의 세계화 방안을 제시할 수 있을 것이다.|Today, as we can have easy access to and enjoy different cultures of the world through globalism of cultures, it is important to have cultural identity to preserve our culture. It is said that ‘The most Korean style is the most global.’ As personality is considered important, Korean artists turned their attention to traditional images as new and unique materials and began to represent our peculiarity and tradition into painting more and more. Therefore, this study used images in traditional flowers and birds painting as materials of my works of art. Theoretical backgrounds of folk painting and flowers and birds painting of Chosun period were analysed, and cases where they were applied in a modern way were reviewed. The flowers and birds painting were greatly influenced by Chinese art, but it has developed into our own painting style according to our culture and environment. Our ancestors represented their desires and needs such as longevity, happiness, success in life, wealth, fecundity, and having a baby boy through personification of flowers and birds . As time has changed, our desires as well as life and senses of values have also changed. However, although everything can be numerically conversed with development of science, manners and customs to believe in the gods which are invisible and pray for their desires have not been changed yet. So, symbolism which is contained in flowers and birds painting of our folk paintings was able to be reinterpreted and represented into new artistic works. This study expressed modern people's desires as sculpture with Korean traditional characteristics using materials of flowers and birds to show utopia where tradition can communicate and sympathize with modernity. It is expected that further studies will present directions for globalism of Korean materials along with developmental directions of traditional folk painting.
