Abstract

This paper examines the earning management by using equity method system. Under equity method system, equity method income calculate multiplied profit and loss of affiliated company by proportion of share ownership. Considering these accounting system, earning managements be possible to adjust affiliated company on proportion of share ownership. The main hypothesis of this study is whether increase or decrease of equity accounted securities effect earning management. For the study, the sample consist of three group ; 1,885 firm(increase of equity accounted securities), 643 firm(invariable of equity accounted securities) 704 firm(decrease of equity accounted securities). In estimating the earning management, the study uses discretionary accruals(DA) of adjusted jones mode(1995). whit the tests of the absolute value of DA, the study confirms that DA of firms that increase(or decrease) equity accounted securities are significant high.
