ABSTRACT

Disease-Related Knowledge Level and Educational Needs of Cardiovascular Disease Patients

This study planned to use basic materials about disease-related knowledge level and educational needs of cardiovascular disease patients. The total patients target sample consisted of 130 cardiovascular disease. For this descriptive correlational study, data was collected using structured questionnaire from August 1th to October 1th, 2011. The data analysis was done using actual numbers, percentiles, means and standard deviations, in addition a t-test, an One-way ANOVA and a Scheffe test were performed using SPSS/PC 15.0.

The results of this study are as follows :

1. The total mean scores of the disease-related knowledge and the educational needs of cardiovascular disease patients were 20.4308(SD=7.2078) and 88.0538(SD=11.7976). 2. For general characteristics of research objects person, the statistical significant famous for the disease-related knowledge were age(p=.000), marital status(p=.004), education level(p=.000), religion(p=.036), occupation(p=.000) and family's monthly income(p=.000). However gender had no statistical significance. 3. For the disease-related characteristics of research objects, the statistical significant factors for the disease-related knowledge were cardiac hospitalization(p=.007) and family history(p=.001). However diagnosis and existence or nonexistence of hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, and other disease had no statistical significance. 4. The statistical significant contributor for risk factors of the disease-related knowledge was health status(p=.032). However BMI(Body Mass Index), smoking, drinking, exercise, stress and chest pains were had no statistical significance. 5. For general characteristics of research object person, the statistical significant factors for the educational needs were age(p=.000), marital status(p=.017), occupation(p=.010) and family's monthly income(p=.000). However gender, education level and religion had no statistical significance. 6. For the disease-related characteristics of research objects, the statistical significant factors for the educational needs was family history(p=.000). However cardiac hospitalization, diagnosis, and existence or nonexistence of hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, and other disease had no statistical significance.
