- Abstract
- Titanium (Ti) have been widely used as biomaterials due to electrical and thermal conductivity and mechanical properties. To improve the biocompatibility, several surface treatment methods were suggested. Micro- and nano topography of Ti implant surface acts on major factor for osteoblast cell adhesion, proliferation and differentiation. In this study, we prepared nano- and micro structured TiO2 surface and evaluated the biological activity of osteoblast like cell on the modified TiO2 surface. TiO2 surfaces of micro- and nano-mesh structured were prepared by SLA and alkaline treatment. Surface morphology and composition were characterized by Field Emission scanning electron micrographs (FE-SEM), and X-ray diffraction (XRD). To evaluate the MC3T3-E1 cell proliferation and differentiation on modified TiO2 surface, MTT assay and ALP activity were used. Alkali treated Ti surface showed nano-mesh TiO2 topographic characteristics. As the increase of immersing time in alkali solution, nano-mesh size was gradually increased. SLA treated Ti surface showed good proliferation and differentiation of MC3T3-E1 cell compared to that of nano-mesh structured Ti surface.
