A Study on the Vocabulary of 『Joseoneomun』

- With the focusing on 『Joseoneomun』 for junior high school -

'Joseoneo', is the Korean language used by Ethnic Koreans living in China. Ethnic Korean Chinese have been using 'the Spelling System of Chosun Language' since diplomatic relations between the Republic of Korea and the People's Republic of China. Since Ethnic Korean Chinese are living in multiracial country of China, their language has also been influenced by Chinese and minority group languages. Therefore, 'Joseoneo' shows great differences in vocabulary than South Korean.
『Joseoneomun』 are the textbooks used in primary schools, junior high schools and senior high schools for the Ethnic Korean Chinese. This study set out to identify the vocabulary used in the first semester 『Joseoneomun』 for the first, second and third grade in junior high schools with the scope confined within the 'Reading' area.
In this study, the number of total running words and different words was 14,099 and 4,238 respectively, and the average relative frequency was 3.33. The following results were obtained through the statistical analysis methods.
Distribution analysis of parts of speech. The division of parts of speech was based on the unified standard of school grammar. In case of different words, the number of nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs records 46.06%, 26,79%, 8.33%, 9.30% respectively.
Distribution analysis of words. In this study, four kinds of words were classified like original words, Chinese words, foreign words, and composite words. In the result, the original words hold the largest 74.43% and the chinese words, composite words, and foreign words hold 17.44%, 7.12% and 1.17% respectively.
Distribution analysis of frequency. The frequency of words used becomes the fundamental standard in determining the value of words. The average relative frequency can be obtained when the number of running words is divided by the number of different words. With the 14,099 of running words, 4,238 of different words and 3.33 of average relative frequency, I could find that the word organization and the rate of repeat were reinforced.
At the last chapter, I discuss the differences of the vocabulary in 『Joseoneomun』and South Korean, using 『Joseon Language Dictionary』 and『The Great Dictionary of Standard Korean』.
