Comparison of the Bond-Strength of Veneered- Porcelain Depending on the Types of Gold-Alloy

Purpose: In this study, we evaluate the bond-strength between gold-alloy and veneered-porcelain according to the type of gold-alloy and find if the bond strength of gold alloy with lower gold content than the presently used gold alloy is high enough.

Material and Methods: For this study, after plasticizing porcelain only for gold alloy, metal specimen was fabricated using Ni-Cr alloy and gold alloy with different gold content. 3-point flexural test were performed to measure their bond-strength.

Results: The bonding strength between Ni-Cr alloy and porcelain waas 40.62MPa, which waas the highest(p<.05). In sequence of decreasing value, gold alloy(85%) was 37.47MPa, gold alloy(52%) 35.85MPa, gold alloy(51.5%) 35.04MPa, gold alloy(32%) 33.17MPa, gold alloy(10%) 30.75MPa. The bonding strength between gold alloy and porcelain increased according to the content of gold. In all experimental groups showed higher value than 25MPa, which is the least value recommended by ISO 9693.

Conclusion: No significant difference between bonding strength of gold alloy(85%) and porcelain and that of gold alloy(52.5%,51.5%) and porcelain was shown. In all groups, bonding strength was higher than 25MPa, which is the leat value of ISO9693. Therefore it is considered that metal gold alloy with low gold content is clinically usable.
