A Study of Tense and Aspect in To-infinitive

The purpose of this study is to understand tense and aspect by using aspect in to-infinitive. This study especially focuses on the role of relation tense and aspect in to-infinitive. This study examines two meanings. They are telicity and atelicity. This study is especially related with lexical aspect. This study presents another meaning in the combination between lexical aspect and tense of main verb in to-infinitive sentence. This study consists of three chapters. In the first chapter, purpose and necessity of this study is described. In the second chapter, aspect(lexical and grammatical aspect) and tense are described. That is, this study is about tense, grammatical aspect and lexical aspect. In the third chapter, the results is described. This study suggests that future studies have to observe how we understand various meanings in to-infinitive sentence. This study is to allow for tense and aspect. Tense of to-infinitive is an important part in English. Aspect and tense are both concerned with temporal reference, and considering that tense may imply aspectual meaning, it is difficult to distinguish between tense and aspect. Aspectual meanings vary according to the distinction of count terms and mass terms. To describe the tense of to-infinitive, it is needed aspect to express another semantic meaning - Telicity and Atelicity. If to-infinitive has tense, i will present the reason and I will examine grammartical aspect and lexical aspect. The meaning of tense is different according to verbs. Particular verbs of hope, wish, intend present the future. And progressive(be+V-ing) presents near future. English has only two tenses - past and present, that is, they have just a limited meaning. So they are needed combination aspect and tense to present other meanings. I hope this study sould help somebody who studys to-infinitive in the future.
