Abstract
The purpose of this study was to develop inquiry-Mendelian Genetics experiment module using Caenorhabditis elegans (C. elegans). First, we searched C. elegans mutants suitable for the module development by their phenotypes. In collaboration with CGC (C. elegans Genomic Center), the proper mutants were selected for the system and a preliminary module was developed. The preliminary module was evaluated by experts and by 12 college students in third years of science education in C University. After the trial, the module was revised and supplemented for the final inquiry experiment module. This module is consisted of 5 class hours, observation of C. elegans, identification of dominant and recessive trait, law of segregation. Advantages of the module are; 1. Overcome of lack of genetic experimental material, 2. Shorter class hours than a previous experiment module, and 3. Accomplishment of enhanced inquiry ability by the inquisition process as well as genetic concept. Even though this module is effective for Mendelian Genetics, there is still a progress of the module for the law of independence. Therefore, further research is required for improving the inquiry experiment and also effectiveness on the conceptual changes of genetics in school.
