Abstract
Son Chang-Seop takes repeatedly the mediocrity of human being as main subject in his early works. Literary critics are arguing each other about the interpretation of this subject; some claim that Son Chang-Seop looks at humain being with contempt, and other critics suggest that the subject of the mediocrity of human being stems from the confrontation with the disastrous situation of the Korean war, with the others. Some critics who employ the technical methods of psychoanalysis argue that the author's subject is the result of the failure of entering into the Imaginary due to the lack of the pahallus. We could content from theses arguments that the author's subject is linked with the human being who feels that the existence of his life and the word are meaningless This human being is 'reificated' and despairing. But many people, based on their proper values, 'reificate' the others for their own benefit. That is why conflicts between men are strongly emphasized and human values for which people have long believed in are denied in Son Chang-Seop early works. The author's early works result in natural human being, and this human being is the natural result of the reificated social values.
