Abstract
ABSTRACT

Relationships between police officers’ participation satisfaction with leisure activity and organizational communication, organizational effectiveness and their quality of life

This research aims to present basic data and materials which can be theoretical foundation in establishing policies with respects to the sound way of utilizing leisure by police officers. It also addresses the importance of leisure activity in order for their effective job performance further by identifying relationships between police officers’ satisfaction with joining a sports circle and organizational communication, organizational effectiveness, and their quality of life.
The subjects of this research were the police officers who were working at the national police agency throughout the country, regional police agency, and the police precinct office as of 2010, and taking them as the population, then after, the researcher distributed 500 questionnaires targeting the police officers who had entered Police Training Institute at ASAN, ChungNam Do, utilizing the convenient sampling method. Total 376 questionnaires which were completed, except 124 questionnaires with insincere responses, including the questionnaires which had not been returned, were used in the analysis.
The statistical techniques used in this research were descriptive analysis, frequency analysis, exploratory factor analysis, Cronbach'α, correlation analysis, and multiple regression, path analysis etc. The results derived from the above research method and the data analyses are as follows:

First, the results from examinations of differences in participant satisfaction, communication, organizational effectiveness, and quality of life according to general characteristics revealed that there were no differences between the groups in gender. However, there were differences in downward communication, organizational commitment, family relations, and social relations between the groups according to age; differences in contributions to public benefits, personal achievement, social recognition, horizontal communication, and family relations between the groups according to education level; differences in downward communications, family relations between the groups according to the rank; differences in downward communications and family relations between the groups according to the career.

Second, the results from investigation about the impact of the participant satisfaction with leisure activity on the organizational communication revealed that the variables of personal achievement affected both upward and downward communication.

Third, the results from examination of the influence of the participant satisfaction on the organizational effectiveness showed that the variables of personal achievements had influences on job satisfaction and organizational commitment.

Fourth, the results from investigation about the influences of the participant satisfaction with leisure activity on the quality of life indicated that the variables of the contribution to public benefits and social recognition had impacts on family relations and social relations. And the variables of the contribution to public benefits and personal achievement affected leisure related activities.

Fifth, the results from examination of the impact of the organizational communication on the organization effectiveness revealed that the variables of upward/downward/horizontal communication had influences on the job satisfaction, and that the variables of upward/horizontal communication affected organizational commitment.

Sixth, the results from investigation about the influences of the organizational communication on the quality of life showed that the variables of upward/downward communication affected the leisure related activity. And the variables of upward/horizontal communication had influences on social relations.

Seventh, the results from examination of the impacts of the organizational effectiveness on the quality of life revealed that the variables of job satisfaction and organizational commitment had influences on family relations and social relations as well.

Eighth, participant satisfaction strengthened the quality of life through organizational communication and organizational effectiveness with participant satisfaction, and so the researcher found that the organizational communication and organizational effectiveness with participant satisfaction were important intervening variables inherent in the relationship between independent variable and dependent variable.
