Abstract
This study is an equivalent experimental study to compare and verify the ed
ucational effects of three learning methods for CPR such as music video self-in
struction, video self-instruction and conventional instructor-led instruction.
Subjects of this study were 126 third graders of S Middle School in G metro
politan city, who agreed to participate in this study under informed consent by documented form and then randomly allocated to 3 experimental groups, 36 of music video self-instruction group(Exp A), 35 of video self-instruction group(Exp B), and 30 of instructor-led instruction group(Exp C), respectively.
The period of study was three day from Sept. 7 to 9, 2009.
As a results of analysis, Chi-square test, paired t-test, ANOVA(Scheffe post-hoc test) by statistical package SPSS ver. 12.0, major research findings were as follows;
1. three groups were homogeneous in sex, baseline values of outcome measures such as knowledge, self-efficacy, accuracy of technique performance.
2. the score of knowledge about CPR significantly increased after instruction in all 3 groups(p<0.001, respectively). Regarding mean difference in the score before and after CPR instructions, Exp A(7.50±2.84) was significantly higher than Exp C(5.60±2.41)(p=0.018).
3. self-efficacy towards CPR significantly increased after instruction in all 3 groups(p<0.001, respectively). Regarding mean difference in self-efficacy before and after CPR instructions, Exp A(2.18±0.56) and B(1.97±0.57) were significantly higher than Exp C(1.58±0.67)(p<0.001).
4. the accuracy of technique performance significantly increased after instruction in all 3 groups(p<0.001, respectively). Regarding mean difference in that before and after CPR instructions, Exp A(10.91±2.07) was significantly higher than Exp C(8.56±3.67)(p=0.004).
5. regarding the satisfaction with instruction, Exp A(3.82±0.65) and Exp B(3.53±0.78) were significantly higher than Exp C(2.74±0.68)(p<0.001).
In conclusion, as CPR learning method for middle school students, music video self-instruction was the most effective in improving all outcome measures.
