통초(Tetrapanax papyriferum)의 추출물이 인체 구강암 KB 세포주에 미치는 영향

Abstract

This study was conducted to examine into the effect of the anti-cancer activity of Tetrapanax papyriferum extract on the inhibition of the KB human oral squamous carcinoma cells. Tetrapanax papyriferum were harvested, washed and dried in the Hwasun, Jeonnam district of Korea, and extracted by hot-water and methanol. Anti-cancer activity in terms of the inhibition of the KB human oral squamous carcinoma cells were better inhibited in the methanol extract of Tetrapanax papyriferum than in the hot-water extract. The anti-cancer activity, the hyperplasia inhibition activity of methanol extract against the KB human oral squamous carcinoma cells were about 70%. The KB human oral squamous carcinoma cells were inhibited significantly by the expression of COX-2 protein in the methanol extract of Tetrapanax papyriferum, however, that were not inhibited in the hot-water extract. These results showed that the methanol extract from Tetrapanax papyriferum may explain some known biological activities including anti-cancer activity and is a considerable benefit in the treatment of oral cancer.
